They make adapters for small block Chevy V8s. And, a variant was used in the Toyota Celica Supra turbo car.....

Most bolt ons don't really add much,There is a bolt on supercharger kit but for the price and power it makes its better to get a stroker kit or maybe v8 swap it if you can do the work. The stock trans has held up for people running a stroker and a blower or turbo. If you do end up killing the trans you can get a adapter kit to run a gm trans but you would have to get another to run your t case but to me i would upgrade the t case if im going that far.

^This, the AW4 is rated for 450lb-ft of torque so it should be able to handle just about anything you can bolt onto a 4.0L I6 or a stroker just fine. In the unlikely event that you actually break it, the AW4 can be rebuilt with heavy duty clutch packs which give it a 600lb-ft+ torque rating or replaced with a GM trans with adaptors as andrewmp6 stated (note: you will have to go to a 4L80 or THM400 to get a strength/durability upgrade, the 4L60/700R4 is only rated for 350lb-ft so it is actually weaker than the AW4).

You can buy a 700r4 beefed up to handle a 1000hp or torque for under 3 grand new.The 4l80 won't fit with out a lot of trans tunnel beating/cutting but the 700r4/4l60 does fit fine.
