how can i tell if i have a bad fan clutch?

Default how can i tell if i have a bad fan clutch?

hey my jeeps making some weird noises and iv noticed i can grab my fan and wiggle it back and forth some.. how do i know if my fan is bad?

If your fan clucth is bad the fan wont ever shut off... So the faster you go and the higher the RPM the faster the fan will spin. It will sound like a damn big rig.

If you can wiggle the fan in and out the water pump is probably bad. That's a sign of a bad bearing, and so is the noise.

i just put in a water pump and new thermostat

They usually fail and don't spin fast enough. If you're running hot and rev the motor and the fan doesnt sound like a 747 on takeoff, it's bad. They are LOUD fully engaged.

Hey buddy, my electric fan had play and made a wretched noise. There was nothing wrong with the water pump, just over time with anything it needs to be replaced. I took one out of an early 90's xj and cut the clips slodered in the new clips and it was good to go and no more wretched noise lol!!
