Hood vent q

Hey all I really want to put new hood vents in my car. Old owner covered the ones up I have cus water would drip on a sensor right by where the air cleaner hose meets the intake. The tps sensor or something like that. Anywho any good ways to keep the water out or areas they would work without doing damage?

it's summer. why not just uncover them until rainy season? dont need vents in the cold anyway

It rained all day here yesterday. But anyway, there are alot of threads about hood vents. Do a search. The folks with them, have made drip pans for under the hood, to keep water away from stuff. I think depending on where you live, determines how much they help. Living in Wisconsin, I don't want them. I'm trying to keep snow out. If I lived in Arizona, it would be different.

Di-electric grease. I've has my vents for over 2 years with no drip pans and been through enough heavy rain (hurricanes, noreasters) to tell you it's not a big deal if you use di electric grease

Use di electric grease on the electronics below it or what?

Yes, put the grease on all the electrical connections.

Ive had my hood vents for a few months now with no ill effects. It actually sat through a tropical storm down here in fl and it dident affect anything. Just put some di-electric grease on em and call it a day!

This^^^^ dielectric grease works wonders for that stuff. Also if its not your dd, throw a tarp over the hood when you're not using it.

Ok maybe I'll give that a try. Would you happen to know what sensor I am talking about that gets wet? It's something like tps or pts it's by where my air intake meets my intake valve

Drewjharper1900 08-12-2012 05:28 PM

Its either the map, iac, or tps

Would you mind explaining what each do?

Do u just cover it in grease or unplug it and put grease on the connectors then hook it back up

Just do a google search on each one. And you unplug it and put it on the connections.
