Default Hood fan thoughts.

I have an electric fan from a pontiac sunfire thats broken down and I originally pulled the fan to check if it would fit where the jeeps mechanical fan was but I didnt. So Instead of having hood vents I was thinking of putting a fan through the top of the hood then putting a hood air dam kinda thing over it. I was looking into how I could wire it up and I dont have a window washer bottle so I wired the fan up to the pumps power/ ground cables. The control inside is just a rocker button thing so it wont stay on so I thought I would replace it with a toggle switch. I am just looking into doing this. So if anyone has a thought on this idea I would like to hear it.

I have two hood fans, but they are part of oil coolers for the tranny and engine. The hood fan might be of benefit if going slow or parked. But just a good set of regular vents, especially in the front of the hood work as well or better than a fan would. Also, you are probably going to need a larger circuit for the fan.

I think it might be unnecessary. But hay people say carrying around 200lbs of tools is too.

Do you have some kind of cover over the fans? I didnt say it originally but I will set it up to be sucking hot air out the top. What could be the outcome if I just use the ww circuit? And how are your fans wired up?

No covers and no problems. Most fan motors are sealed anyway. Some worry about water on electrical components, but honestly go through a puddle a little too fast and you get far more water in there.

Ok well thats fine. I do more rock crawling and tight n deep washed out ravine wheeling. If it rains Ill just find something the same size as the fan to put over it. The fan is 15" btw. But thanks for your help and Ill be searching around on overloading a circuit kinda stuff. Thanks again

Default Which fan(s) are better and where to buy them

In some I sure a Cherokee with two fans on the hood. They looked to be about 10 to 12”. Should the placement be at the front or closer to the windshield? Are there any water problems to the engine?
