looks like a a screwdriver or a hammer or a crowbar could open than in 2 seconds. probably a rock could too.

If I'm going to drive more than an hour or so from home I usually take a spare just in case. If I'm going more than 2 hours away I definitely take a spare.

Well considering they promote the hitch thing as a place to store a spare key... I'm not sure what good a bigger locked box is going to do inside the car. Unless you carry a spare key in there, get locked out, smash out a window, crawl through, get the spare, crawl back out, and then unlock the door.

I think its cool. But I don't use a key to start my jeep, and the back window comes out in less than a minute anyways. "that's where you put your **** man"

I sell universal boxes that attach via a thick cable, mainly meant for a gun. Typically they go under the seat.

Fortunately, we don't have to lock ours up. Kinda defeats the purpose of carrying one.

Even in govt buildings?

IIRC places like the Post Office and such even count. DMV, etc. Can't carry there.

Keep in mind I sell mainly to law enforcement guys, they go places that some civilians don't usually go. Jails, court houses, so on...

Well, yeah. I can't carry into a govt building. I just meant that it doesn't have to be locked up in transport when you're in the vehicle. Sure, it makes sense to lock it up in your car when you have to leave it there.

I was thinking more along the lines of the states that require the gun to be locked in a compartment during transport 100% of the time.

SC requires that it either be on your person or in a concealed compartment but doesn't have to be locked.

GA requires that the weapon be in plain sight at all times...

Gotcha. If you have a permit you can do whatever is comfortable for you.

And if your stopped you don't have to mention a thing unless asked.

I had an interesting experience with that situation last spring. An officer did not understand that, and was rather upset that i didn't tell him when he walked up to the window. Haha, I think I posted a thread here about it too!

Either way, not required to lock it up. But businesses can choose to not allow weapons, which i am ok with. Their property, their choice. I think they cak be sued, however, if something does happen like a robbery. Putting up the sign, I remember learning from my concealed class, means they take responsibility for your protection or something.

The penalties here are so light tho. If you carry somewhere thats prohibited, they have to ask you to leave first. If they can prove they've asked you to leave in the past, you get a trespassing ticket, $250. So most people often "forget" about the signs....

I'm not sure if its the same in the post offices and govt buildings tho. Penalties may be stiffer. Giggity.
