Help lol please!!!!!!
Hey everyone, I just inherited a 91 jeep Cherokee Laredo. I'm intrestred in building this Jeep to compete in a local mud bog and also for my own personal mud truck, unfortunately I know nothing about jeeps. This is the first jeep I've ever owned if it's not overly obvious already, but I also think that it's going to take a wile to fully build this thing. I'm trying to dedicate as much time as I can to research what I got to try to get an idea of what the best combos are for this jeep. I was wondering if anyone had some insight or advise reguarding this as far as, motor/ stroker, tires like 33's or 35's my class has to be 35's and under. Also are the Trans pretty durable in this model or is there a beefy option for upgrades. I wanna ask y'all the pros!!!! So please anything will help. I'm going to try and get some Picts up soon. I must say for 1$ it's the best thing I've ever got. Thanks y'all. - Andrew

It has the inline 6 motor right? Auto or 5 speed?
The I6 motor and auto trans can handle abuse... it is the axles that I would worry about.
Did you have a budget in mind?

First off go to dealership and give them your vin and et a build sheet that'll tell you the tranny type engine type axle blah blah blah. Since you don't know about jeep this is a good ways to start and see what is in your rig

Jcwlm- it's a 91 I think. The manufacture date is 12/90 that's why I believe it's a 91. Jeep Cherokee/ larado. Trans I'm not sure my buddy says it's the Asian one because it has a drain plug on the........tranny pan. He said the American ones don't have the the drain plugs If I remember the convo correctly. And the axels I'm not sure......

Im driving home right now be there in 20 min I wanna upload a bunch of Picts I tried to upload some last night but could
Not figure it out it was the site would not let me. I've already started to mod it. I got rims and tires for free, bought a winch and 2 hitches ran power to both hitches, mounted the winch on a removeable receiver, redid the headliner, only thing that sucks is the chick that had it before me wrecked the driver side. I found a replacement front fender but no junkyard in Fl has a replacmet driver door or rear quarter panel

As long as it's stock I believe you will have a d35 or chrysler 8.25 27 spline. Either way, you're probably going to want to do a swap. For the front a hp d30 I think,Correct me if I'm wrong. For 33's you'll probably be fine but if you go to 35's I'd suggest a truss/upgraded shafts and a few other little things to beef it up. As to the rear, I'd suggest a chrysler 8.25 29 spline or a ford 8.8.

Mud but also build it smart.....for instance I don't care if I spend a couple grand building it i just want it done right. I was told the ****tiest thing about jeeps are the axles that's it!!!!!! Idk if its true or not.....i can build mustangs but jeeps are a different story. I also don't wanna swap motors or anything because I would
Like to race in the I6 class with 35's and under. So idk where to start motor, trans, suspension, or like stroker, nitrous, whatever ect.... Just trying to get ideas

Some jeep axles are decent. I'd say figure what you want for your rear, then gear for the size tires you're going to run, then lock it.
