Grand Cherokee Boat Towing
:help:
Sorry to make this my first post, but I'm somewhat frustrated with my new 2012 Grand Cherokee's (6 cyl Laredo) boat towing issue. It's actually not a towing problem realted to power or load (that part is fine), but rather specific to that darn receiver hitch. It has this awful amount of play between the hitch itself and the receiver. It bangs around and makes awful banging noises. I've tried shimming the hitch. I even bought one of those anti-rattle aftermarket things that's supposed tighen up the hitch. It's better, but it still stinks. Short of welding it on, I'd really like to make this solid so there is absolutley no wiggle at all. Have any of you had this issue? Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks! |

Kind of a silly questions...
Is the receiver securely attached to the vehicle? do you have the correct size pin in it? Some are 5/8 and others are 3/4. Do you have the correct shank size ball for the insert? Short of that? What about air pressure in your trailer tires? If it's too much it'll make the trailer bounce around. The hitch will make some noise anyway. Those are just a few things to check since the noise seems excessive. |
I'll classify this as a "rich white guy" problem. Every hitch has slop and makes noise, you just hear and feel it more on a unibody vehicle.

My Allen receiver bicycle rack has a "no wobble bolt" that is a larger diameter on the bolt head side than the nut side. I had to drill out the hole on one side of the reciever a little bit, but what it does is stop the draw bar wobble by holding it against one side of the inside of the receiver hitch.
