I hate people that park like that if your scared to get a scratch or dent then don't drive the car.
|
I have a different perspective on this because I drive a conspicuous sports car (a bright red Subaru BRZ) AND an XJ.
Since I got the BRZ, I have noticed that morons will go out of their way to park right next to the car, often parking over the line into my space. Although I keep to single spaces, I intentionally park out in the back 40 in most parking lots, and I will come out to find 1000 empty spaces except for the one right next to me where some douchenozzle in a beater has parked so close to my driver's door that I can barely get it open. And despite always parking away from everyone else, after 8 months of ownership I now have five dents in the car where morons have parked right next to me and smacked their doors into it. I figure the problem is even worse for Corvette owners, since what they drive is much more expensive than mine and has even more of a reputation for attracting douche drivers that people think it's okay to mess with. That's why, although I wouldn't take up two spaces right up front the way that guy did, I can understand why he did it. People in general are jackasses, and they will park next to a hot car and ding it with their doors out of spite. That's why he was looking at his door when he went back to his car, because it's pretty common for people to park next to a hot car like that and bang their doors into it on purpose. We have a number of posts on the BRZ board where people have had their cars intentionally damaged in parking lots, and our cars are a fraction of the cost of a Corvette. On the other hand, if I had been driving my Jeep and saw someone park the way that Corvette owner did, I probably would have done the exact same thing this XJ owner did. The Corvette owner countered the general douchiness of other people with douchiness of his own, which just invites more douchiness. |
BRZ's are a good looking car, better looking than a 350z in my opinion. :offtopic:

But like I said, it also puts me in a position to understand both sides of that pic. When you're accustomed to driving a Jeep, especially an old one with some dings in it, you don't realize how many jerks there are out there who can't stand the thought of someone driving a hot sports car. Driving both really drives home the differences in how people react. |
A subaru brz isn't a sports car it has a back seat,A sports car is a 2 seater.
|
It's amazing how many XJ reviews include the phrase, "fun to drive", I agree but can't figure out why they're so fun, maybe because they're so basic it's like driving a go-cart......go-carts are fun.
A couple years ago a co-worker borrowed my XJ to go to lunch, a week later she traded in her old Explorer for a Compass. :cool2: |

Now more people can drive it safely, but that is the problem, more people can drive it now, instead of taking some driving knowledge to do it. |

I think it is because they are "basic" vehicles. XJs have no electronic stability control, and at best very basic anti lock brakes. You have to actually know how to drive to really drive one. New cars you more or less just point it in the direction you want to go and press the pedal. Heck it is nearly impossible to even get a manual transmission in a newer vehicle anymore. Yeah buts it's still a viper... Most people who can afford them can't drive anyways..
Same guy who talks about how great he can drive but has gone through three sets of brake pads and one set of rotors in less than three years. |
I enjoy driving my Jeep because I can't bounce a regular car over Louisiana roads the same way I can with the XJ. The potholes in my neighborhood are horrendous. I have to drive so slowly in the BRZ that I have to go five blocks to a main road before I can even shift out of first gear. In contrast, I can just jump in the XJ and bounce along down the street. And that's with a stock suspension; I can't wait to get my long-arm lift on it.
Remember that photo at the beginning of this thread? I wouldn't even be able to get the BRZ over the curb to park like that.

What are you talking about??
Staying true to the fiction, they actually included rear floor mats. They're actually between the front seat rails, normally under the front seat. I didn't even realize they were under there until I pulled the passenger seat forward to get something out of the back and said, "What the hell?" Then I took this picture: https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...23db246339.jpg That's with the front seat all the way forward. You can't have a front seat passenger with it pushed up like that. My feet wouldn't even fit there even with the seat pushed forward. |

The accepted story is that Toyobaru included those to make it technically a four seater to give us a break on the insurance rates. People have managed to find some car seats for infants that will fit back there, but you're not gonna be carrying full sized adults. funny I have owned some nice cars and always parked away from the front so I can have space. parking like that up front is uncalled for. with that being said the xj owner could have been real mean and pulled in straigt beside the vette as to give the guy plenty of room to get in but none to back out.
