Goodyear Authorities tire.

Was looking at some 31"s today in Walmart. Noticed their Goodyear Authorities I think they were called. Anyone use these tires, or have used them in the past? How do they compare to other brands?

MNowak 06-15-2012 07:32 PM

You will hear lots of bad things about walmart tires, but I have them and really like them, they are really good in almost everything, they wear well and the are pretty cheap compared to a lot of tires out there.

TheCK4x4 06-15-2012 07:49 PM

I've read good things and heard good things about them.

KJamesJR 06-15-2012 11:03 PM

There seems to be a 15 page thread on JeepForum, just about this tire. I'm reading it.

Oh and the proper name for this tire:

Goodyear Wrangler Authority A/T

$148.00 @ Walmart. Probably cheaper in a 4 tire bundle...

TheCK4x4 06-15-2012 11:10 PM

Yeah dude there is a guy on YouTube that does a good review

I loved mine when I had them! Big improvement over the bfg all terrains I had prior to the authorities

Big improvement? How so? This tire is $60 cheaper than the BFG's in my location...

For one they aren't BFG Mall Terrains. I have heard tons of good about them, they sort of look like duratracs too.

Wish I new more about tires... Trying to learn.

Not sure if they would do well in the snow. They do have some beefy tread though. I read the sidewalls are thin however. Not that I'm too worried about sidewall damage, I just know what it's like to "slip into a rut". Where I'm at, there just happens to be a lot of granite in the earth. I don't want to get pulled into a rut with granite walls, then lose a tire because of it.

They are snow rated.....well they have the little aproval snowflake thing on the side , I wouldn't worry to much about sidwall unless your really doing some crawling stuff

fatboyadams 06-16-2012 02:53 PM

Im the shop manger for a tle this tire is awsome! They wear good as long as you keep up with your rotations.i had a customer with a z71 that got 65,000 out of them before he changed them. Im going to get them after i lift my jeep higher.

KJamesJR 06-16-2012 02:56 PM

Well I'm reading nothing but good things from this tire... I guess I know what I'm getting for my lift.

sakosha 06-16-2012 03:38 PM

check out the falken wild peak a/t tire as well. 3 ply, 50k mile warranty, very quiet on the highway. haven't taken them out in the mud yet but they are reviewed really well.

i got mine for $145/tire in 31x10.5x15 at big o tires.. they can be had a little cheaper if you bargain.

Not the best picture but you get the idea.

I have these on my XJ, love them. I have never had any traction problems in mud, rocks, or sand. They are great on the road as well, no noise and great wet traction (no snow here, so can't comment on that).

I do have 1 issue with these tires, and that is the only size they have for 15s is 31s, and I am ready to go bigger and wish i could get the same tires again.

Best picture i have where you can see the tire.

Looks like a good snow tire... The BFG's don't look like they would handle well in snow.

These tires are awesome in the mud they do as well as my buddys Nitto Mud Grapplers. Cant say the do well in sand though they like to dig. On the road mine have a lil roar at 40+mph but if your tires dont holler they must be bold. lol :)

I'm a walmart shop manager, they ride rough, and are loud if those are things you care about. I've had several customers return them due to the harshness.

I know we don't really get them in too much anymore, they do have good traction for mud. For a note, walmarts policy is to only do stock sizes, so unless you want 215/75/15s on your truck, just bring the rims in, not the vehicle. Walmart can now special order tires, just ask them to, I snagged a set of general grabber red letter that a cust ordered and forgot.

I do believe Walmart also carry Cooper Discoverer ST, and that is what I use. I like them very much.

Mine are a lil loud but far from a rough ride. If you run the correct psi it rides as smooth as a lifted Jeep can. Personally I run 27psi in my tires gives me even contact to the road and like I said it rides as smooth as a lifted Jeep can.
