Good buy?

What do you guys think? Talked to the guy and the springs need to be replaced due to lift and the brakes are out of adjustment in the back. Springs are like $120 online so not too bad. No idea about the brakes in the back.

I don't know how many miles. He bought it with the lift and tires and the extras. I don't know how much getting the rear brakes readjusted is going to cost, but it looked like a good deal online. Going to check it out in a bit.

I vote no. he probably drove it around a bit and realized that the lift was crap or installed poorly
and he added up the cost or hours to fix everything and realized it wasnt worth it
he probably bought it for $2500 and is asking $2500 to come out even
the ad dont sit right with me
especially that information right there.
he just doesnt know the quality of the work since he didnt do the work himself. sounds like a garbage pile that hes trying to dump

Well I went and looked at it. He works at the university I attend. The interior is in pieces which concerns me. His wife is making him sell it. He is in grad school and doesn't have the time to finish it. Needs new paint, etc. Had 186k miles on it. My buddy says it isn't.too bad, but it.didn't look great. Would require a week of diligent work at least by a professional mechanic/installer. Nice.guy though

I am on craig's list. My buddy keeps linking me to 1990 XJs while another buddy of mine keeps linking me ZJs. I don't know which is better at what I want out of it which is mud and a trail rig that can take water and rock and whatever else I find. This will be a work in progress toy over the next few years, so it might end up extreme

the grand cherokee has a very limited aftermarket. making it very expensive
its bigger and beefier with lots of cargo room and works great for camping/hunting/fishing/light trails
I vote XJ all the way. it's the perfect size for DD/weekend warrior IMHO
I spent 6 months looking for my most recent XJ. took a lot of patience

but I like the old school steering wheel and classic interior
cheap and easy parts to replace if anything is broken
my budget was only $1000 anyways. so it worked out perfect
what's your budget?

00-01 were installed with the o331 head which is prone to cracking. most will tell you to avoid it. some will say it works fine for them (so far)
84-89 had engines that lack power. the high output engine was introduced in 90. more HP was added in 96
peugot 5 speed transmission was terrible. used only up to 89
cant think of anything else at the moment but anywhere from 90-99 should be great
