Ghost Jeep
Ok so for the longest time my Red 1996 Jeep Cherokee sport has been acting strange when shut off. When I turn the key and take it out it continues to run for 3-5 seconds before finally shutting off. I asked the guy at autozone why it did that and he told me it was haunted >.>. Is this anything I should be worried about. It's been like this for about a year and hasn't let me down yet.

Could be several things. The most likely cause is a fouled ignition switch (under dash, mounted on steering column). If it sounds like it's dieseling (knocking) after switching off then it could be pre-ignition caused by a build up of carbon in the combustion chamber that has altered your compression. Try running a 1/2 tank of super unleaded through it and see if it makes a difference. The higher octane fuel will resist the urge to detonate under compression. If it just keeps running normally then I'll go with a sticky ignition switch as the culprit... or it's haunted.

I'm guessing it's the ignition then lol. It run's like a top those 3-5 seconds the key is out all the electrical shuts off right away though which is confusing too.

Your post scares me....
...not because of the "ghost", but the fact you would take automotive advice from a counter monkey at vatozone....LMAO |

Hey, don't hate. Been a mechanic for 10 years and I work there. Not saying everyone there is awesome. Unless they have grease monkey experience.
Douche. :P |
My trail Jeep does that but only when I have the electric fan straight wired to run anytime the key is on. If I actually wired it up correctly it wouldn't do that.

Wow, unwad the big girl panties now, it was a joke...wasn't directed at you or the few people, like you, that may work there. I agree not all are unknowledgeable, but the vast majority of them are...

Go watch/read "Christine" and report back.
