Default First Post/Pics from recent Silver Lake trip

Hey Guys,

I just came across cherokee forum and thought I would join-up. I also thought I would share a few pics from my first wheeling trip from Silver Lake dunes in Mears, MI.

I look forward to talking to you all!

I just joined yesterday, so welcome. I like the way your rig is setup. in fact, its the exact xj I was looking for, pat. blue 2k1 with heated leather. but no luck, so I will keep my 96 sport and try to mod it. I know nothing about lifts and all that, so forgive me if I show my 'dumb card' here again...on your 3.5 lift, did you cut your wheel wells/fenders? yours is about the size I want to lift mine, but still be good for in town and highway driving.

I just have a spacer lift right now. The tires (approx. 31.5 x 10.75) are too big for wheeling without trimming the fenders (more in the rear than in the front.) I am torn right now on whether to go to 4.5 or to do a new JCR bumper and a good 3.5 kit (rubicon express or rough counrty) it's fine on the road but it it will need some serious trimming to do any more serious wheeling.

You have any pics of your rig?

heres a link to a few pics. its flat stock. 68000 on a 96 sport. ive had it right at 7 years and it had 50k when i got it, so as you can tell, i dont drive it much. still havent even got to the 75000 mile tranny fluid check and all that.

click on the "my new baby" link. the rainbow trim there isnt real, its just the way the sun is hitting it. man did i ever get razzed on that at another forum, they all thought i was a fruit cake for putting rainbow trim on a jeep!

WF (wrangler forum) is our sister site strictly for wranglers. i am unaware of the fact that it got hacked but then again i strictly deal with CF related issues.

Thanks, Kyle.

You seem pretty knowledgeable all all things XJ, so I'll throw you a side note - what do you know about hack 'n' tap SYEs for my 242? I was looking at the Rubicon Express kit but their site only mentions that it is for the 231. This will be the mod that happens before I put a "real" lift (4.5) on the XJ (Josie.) Also, what drive shaft would you recommend? I am on a budget but I am not opposed to spending money if I can truly justify it. I have heard of people using stock front shafts. Any thoughts?

i have the HnT sitting in my garage waiting to go in. Its a great SYE option and i know people who run 35's on it with no problems. As for the DS yes you can run the front DS out of a XJ but it needs to be an auto tranny XJ.

so that will work for the 242? Front DS is the right length? Sweet! Thanks Kyle!
