Favorite kind of wheeling

What is your favorite kind of wheeling. Do you like going Muddin', Rock Crawling, Trailing, Crossing Lakes. I prefer trails and mud. I like trails more because there is less chance of breaking my Jeep which is my DD but sure do love me some mud.

Irongrave 10-06-2010 09:51 PM

Trails with rocks. i hate mud with a passion, seems like something always goes wrong around mud

zr2toxj 10-06-2010 09:55 PM

I'm into rocks. But that's probably because I just got some new sliders. I do like trail riding too, but mud....not so much.

90xj,99xj,92mj 10-06-2010 10:03 PM

trails for sure, with a little bit of rocks:)

Ross L 10-06-2010 10:06 PM

I think I would like rocks more than mud but have not had the chance to get on em yet only been muddin and trailin.

TGL2000 10-06-2010 10:25 PM

alfreado121 10-07-2010 12:07 AM

my jeep takes me anywhere i want usually parking blocks cement ditches landscape rocks and alot of random things that i drive over is my normal type of wheeling

but when i get the chance i like to trail and just explore nothing to crazy since its my DD
love me some mud on occasion

sandaddik2 10-07-2010 12:16 AM

trails with huge rocks, or water is fun but your jeep has to be set up for it

JeepingDan 10-07-2010 12:18 AM

I like rocks Getting it wet aways seems to cost money

Scotty16 10-07-2010 12:31 AM

I like whatever I can get to, whenever I have the chance to get out....trail for me, I've only been wheelin once and that really wasnt even wheelin...just a small trail behind my buddys house

caged 10-07-2010 12:41 AM

that's the best thing about where i live. i wheel about 3.5 hours north of my house where it is in the thick forest which consists mostly of the canadian shield. so lots of protruding rock, some mud (depending on what trail), and usually some pretty deep water holes.
we don't have any off-road (ORV) parks, it's all crown land on many kilometers of snowmobile trails and thousands of lakes.

but i don't care for mud, it's the slow death.
i like rocks, cause the damage is instant.

but mostly, i just like trail riding cause we have all terrain in one trail. tight trees, off camber, steep climbs, some rocky, and most bypasses will bury a lifted rig.

rideordie66 10-07-2010 12:53 AM

I like snow. deep snow. One time I got to go wheelin around a make shift motocross track in a foot or so of the best powder. It was amazing. trails are fun in snow too.

I prefer rocks and any type of technical wheeling - except mud.

OP, if you like mud but don't like to break things, then you're in a contradiction. At least with rocks you have more control over what you get yourself into if you're paying attention. Mud sneaks up on you - a "puddle" turns into quicksand; some innocent looking mud hole turns into the mud pit from hell; and the soupy stuff sucks you right in no matter what you do. Add to that the mud is shapeshifting, so it gets into places a rock can never harm ... brakes, seals, tiny holes :(. And then that's when stuff breaks. Been there, done that - HATED IT!!

XJs-R-us 10-07-2010 03:36 AM

I prefer trails, with alil bit of everything.

Agreed.

MjPioneer 10-07-2010 03:53 AM

I'm a trail rider, but not shy when it comes to mud. Unlike many others my rig is actually set up for mud so I don't destroy everything every time.

_StationWagon_ 10-07-2010 06:13 AM

What does that mean "actually set up for mud". How is a Jeep built for mud different from say, mine ... ? Might be something good to know. Even rocky trails get muddy some times.

2Evil4U 10-07-2010 07:50 AM

I prefer Rally-style driving on dirt roads.

JhammXJ 10-07-2010 08:38 AM

Trails and a little mud!

X1994J 10-07-2010 08:42 AM

My favorite kind of wheeling.... when I'm actually wheeling and not wrenching!

Diesel 10-07-2010 08:46 AM

Anything fun. Mud, rocks, plain old trails.

no rdplz 10-07-2010 09:06 AM

Trails with some good rock obstacles are my #1. A little mud is okay, but it gets into and breaks too many things when there's a lot of it. I'll go wherever I can though.

Rock Toy 10-07-2010 05:12 PM

I like scenic mountain trails, narrow tracks through trees with a few obstacles to keep the heart pumping. Rock crawling and climbing, but I guess my favorite is snow, really deep snow, it is great in the winter when it is powdery, and it is just as fun in the spring when it is beginning to melt.
The only kind of wheeling I hate is mud, to much dam trouble to clean up after the fun. Couple hours fun=twice the time cleaning up, checking all springs, control arms bushings, u joints, diffs, and greasing everything.

Swamp Donkey 10-07-2010 05:49 PM

Im in Tennessee so most all trails around that we ride are mud/dirt trails with obstacles and some rocks. I aint none into all out rock crawling. We ride Bryants Cove out Miners Path every once in a while and its rocky and it will beat you to death.

Oh and night riding to me is the best time.. Unless you're in an area you're not familiar with.

89eliminator 10-07-2010 05:59 PM

there is no skill involved with "mudding". i like to chose my lines, which is why i love rocks. i would rather dent my truck up then have it get full of mud and rot everything out.

buckshot500 10-07-2010 09:21 PM

I like trail riding a lot, & some rocks/obstacles. Don't really like mud much.

By far, my favorite has to be urban wheeling. When I lived in Philly, I used to wheel my YJ over all kinds of crap. Up steps, off little concrete walls, odd concrete & blacktop slopes on the sides of truck docks. & other places that a skateboarder would appreciate.

Also these big piles of snow in shopping mall parking lots from when they plow. I sure do miss those.

Ross L 10-07-2010 10:09 PM

Ya I prefer the sand bumpy trails with trees and big holes of sand because if I get stuck in the sand I can get out easier then the mud. I just like getting my jeep dirty but mud scares me since I have 234k miles on my jeep.

Char92dj8 10-07-2010 10:12 PM

Ya I am basically in Alabama since I am right on the edge of florida so everything here is mud, and some trails that always have mud in it.

Yeah, i love it most of the time, even when driving through a 3 foot or deeper swamp and not being able to see the end
Then flooding out the distib, and wenching out and after drying the distib
You find out your starter is shot and ur stuck 12 miles away from your cabin in the middle of a national forest
And you and your 2 buddies have to walk out.... at night....

Jeepmandan 10-08-2010 01:54 AM

I would say trails, not to hard on the rig.

except i live in oregon, the home of rain. and as we all know, rain makes mud!

Yeah mud can be fun thats for sure and where I am there is thick mud so I always end up getting stuck with nobody to pull me out (nothing like camping in the middle of a swamp with no radio by yourself.

the jeep man 94 10-08-2010 05:41 PM

jmm0122 10-08-2010 05:48 PM
