Farewell to our beloved Cherokee XJ

4 Attachment(s)
Two weeks ago my father was driving on the highway and he hit a patch of black ice. Next thing he knows the truck rolled over and sat on the side. He survived and got out with a strained neck.. Our insurance company (Geico) declared it a total loss and we signed over the title to them and in a week they gave us our reimbursement check. I'm glad all was settled well but I'm sad I lost the first car I learned to drive in. I feel like she was part of the family. Another sad note: father didn't want another XJ so he bought an Explorer XLT.

How it looked when we bought it:

If you still have it turn it into a trail rig! that doesn't look bad

That looks like it could be easily fixed with some junkyard parts.

Please save that thing and don't let it get crushed. I know many people that would want to drive that still, with its battle scars.

Since this was my father's car he was the main decision maker. I loved it but my father had to have a quick decision since Geico was riding on his tail. I was surprised how fast Geico handled everything. In a matter of two weeks the Auto Damage Adjuster deemed it a total loss, received the title, and sent out the check. Actually it's still in the mail I guess, I'm not entirely sure. Basically it was an impulse decision since he needed a car for work. As much as I would love to have it back and I hate to hurt other fellow Jeep lovers but I just plain don't know how. Last time I saw it was Friday at the Towing Center so the only thing I can think of is calling up Geico and asking if I can purchase the vehicle. Maybe with a salvage title?

You guys are giving me motivation to start a project.

They should let you buy it back. I totally would because it's in decent running condition. The motor and everything is probably just fine.

A couple dings and scratches you can repair later on with your own hands. Or professionally.

Looks totally repairable! Save another xj from hitting the bone yard!

Glad your pops was Ok!

Wait did something happen to it? I notice the mirror is a little out of alignment but its sill there, other then that I don't see a problem. Well regardless happy no one was dangerously injured, sucks to see another XJ leave this world : (

Last year when my '92 got totaled, the insurance company called me and told me how much they were offering me. Of course I accepted. I HAD to have another XJ. They said they were just going to scrap the old one and asked if I wanted to keep it. I asked how much and they said they would only make $150.00 out of it so I said YES. Front end damage and tweaked unibody. If the tie rod wasn't broken, I 'could' have driven it home. So, for $150, I got a strong running motor, good tranny, recently rebuit TC, good driveshafts, good front and rear end, new u-joints, almost new tires (stock) and all the glass and body panels excent the front. Plus the interior and lots of misc parts. All for $150. You can't beat that with a stick.
