Excessive charge from off road shop
 

Hey everybody Hellz here. I have been doing quite a bit of research on my Cherokee and have decided to start inquiring with shops about build sheets and pricing. The shop i have decided to go inquire with has sent me a build sheet But i feel like they may be massively overcharging me for some of the parts. Are there any professionals in here that can lend me a an eye and give a second opinion? I would appreciate it.

Im sure you post up some Questions or numbers someone will chime in and give there opinion! (leave shop name out and not put them on the spot)

What are you getting done? need a little more info. (The job the shop will be doing) a full lift? axle work? gearing?
Also what they are quoting you for the work.

So it looks like a full package with gears,sye, drive line, along with lift..

What size tires you going to run?

33 inch tires.

The more I look at it..maybe you should break it down.. Get lift first along with sye,,,then tires, then a re-gear..


Because they are doing a re-gear job and other stuff really brings the price up.. If it was just lift I would say,,yeah thats high.. But they are re-gearing and a sye.

The SYE, depending on brand and driveline may be reasonable. For instance a Tom Woods driveline will run you $400+. So if you are getting an Advance Adapters SYE, that would be a typical price. But bear in mind, that they will add a profit to the parts they buy for you. $650 for labor is reasonable since most shops charge $100 per hour shop time. I couldn't get all that done in 6.5 hours so I think that is reasonable. I think you may need to find out what brand of parts you are getting for further analysis

Okay i will ask about which brands they use.

While i have you fellas on the hook here can you tell me what benefit i would get from a long arm kit vs a short arm kit? and if it was your Jeep what brands would you use?

The long arm will ride nicer and smoother on and off road. Off road, you will get more articulation and be able to flex your way through obstacles a little easier. The question for you is. What are you building this for? Rock crawling, Overlanding, Mud, Back woods trails? Also how aggressive are you going? Once or twice a month? More than that? Is this your daily? I am one who believes , buy once cry once. But at the same time. Do your research and have an idea of the direction you are going.

I would ask them for the brands and possibly an itemized break down of the work. This is very vague and doesn't encompass what you are actually paying for.

Okay guys Hellz back here with the parts list. this is a direct quote from the guy at the shop. what do you guys think?

"Iron rock Offroad lift, and bilstein shocks. The cheaper lift option uses their short arm kit, with adjustable ends. The 3 link option is their long arm 3 link upgrade kit. Both at 4" height.
We sell and install revolution gear and axle products for ring and pinion/axle parts. For the rear shaft, we use Adams driveshaft with a slip yoke eliminator kit, to ensure no vibrations.
Also need to mention, when we re-gear, we use master kits, so you get a rebuilt differential, with a 3 year warranty on install labor too!"
