To everyone who's jeep runs hot...
I am in the process of removing my mechanical fan and replacing the with a triple fan set up. My Jeep has always stayed over 200 on normal conditions and occasionally spikes to 235 or so. I was planning on replacing the fans, water pump, thermostat, and hoses (Jeep has 170k miles on it).
Well I took the fans out drained the fluid and flushed water through the motor and radiator. I started to clean the radiator fins. Holy crap how much stuff came out just spraying it with a hose. I stood there for about 15 minutes washing mud out of the radiator. I have always always flushed the radiator after wheeling and thought I did a good job at it but boy I was wrong. Before jumping to replacing stuff I would highly suggest that you flush your coils with the hose. I am still shocked how much crap came out of the coils. I am still going to flush it some more tomorrow. I would bet anyone who is running a little hot and plays in mud or dirty water radiator is packed with some gunk. I almost want to put everything back together to see what temps it would run but not after how much of a pain it was getting it out. Give it a shot all you have to loose is some time and h2o. |
Mine has a new water pump, rad, and T stat, since then never runs hot. Im guessing you must have a problem somewhere.

I am sure it is going to run much better after replacing the pump and thermostat too. I was just suggesting really flushing the coil out good before replacing stuff. |
I had this on my YJ. Till I realised it was gunk in the radiator it was too late. Blew the head gasket. Dumb noob move at the time.
Good advise man. I always spray the rad out now after mudding. |

You're absolutely correct on the the radiator being clean. I just did a write up on the Dual AC fans noting that. No air flow across the coils=no cooling. Oh, I sent you a msg as well. Let me know if you still need help thursday. |
3 row rad, all i used and a aftermarket gauge, it runs 180 in 104 degree heat sitting still with ac on. aux fan on switch

mine was running hot to and my water pump was cracked so i put a new pump, 3 row rad, t-stat, upper and lower hoses...and now it run under 200 all the time
