Ethanol-Free Gas: Serious Business

So typically I get about 200 miles to a full tank (20 gallons) and my idle RPMs are about 1200 (I know, high) in my 1992 4.0. On my last fill up I put ethanol free gas in the tank. I have slightly over a quarter of a tank left and I've gone 250 miles and my idle RPMs have dropped below 1000. Holy ****.

That's still bad.

The point isn't that my gas mileage is terrible, it's that my Jeep loves ethanol free gas. A lot.

Where can I get Ethanol free gas, do I have to go to Canada for it? http://www.sherv.net/cm/emo/funny/2/...y-emoticon.gif

You have some mileage problems....
I typically get 370 city and 410 to 440 on the hwy. Had a best of 487 on a long road trip between Flaggstaff AZ and Tuchumcari NM, guess the planets were aligned that day.
By the way ethanol can KILL your exhaust valves(with stock compression) due to its slow burn time.

Then why is it drinking less of it? :drink:

more like you have some mileage problems. Because I haven't seen a jeep get that much.

5spd, and spoiled at 435,000. Usually run 89 octane. and that's only 24ish miles to the gallon. Not too far out of sight considering that 15 to 20 was the base mileage new. Just put on the 703 injector so I may see a bump(hopefully) to those #s'.

That's because EtOH (or alcohols in general) have a significantly lower energy content than gasoline, and the stoichiometric combustion ratios are also markedly different.

It loves it like I love good bourbon, it sips it.

NewJerseyXJ609 05-19-2013 11:26 PM

Ethanol is crap. It's ruining our beloved 4 liters little by little. I wish NO gas station used it..

NewJerseyXJ609 05-19-2013 11:27 PM

Try wawa gas if your ever out my way.... 20 bucks will last you about............. That long. They use a ton of ethanol.

I seen a clear gas can full of gas while I was in Mexico a few weeks ago. It actually looked like gasoline, with color and everything! But I also was able to smell the exhaust from every vehicle on the road while I was there.
