Duratracs vs BFG AT 33x12.50

Default Duratracs vs BFG AT 33x12.50

Ive seen opinions from people on othe forums like the wrangler forums and even the chevy forums but not from here. Im also looking for advice on my current situation. Right now im sitting on 4.5 RE lift, 31x10 in 15x8 cragar sot 8's. Im going with 33's and ive heard you can fit 33x12.50 in a 15x8 but its not the best idea. My plan is to give my 31's with the 15x8 cragars to my dad to put in his YJ. Im gonna buy 4 new 15x10 soft 8's and the new tires. I live pretty far out so it takes me about 6 highway miles just to get into town everytime I go out in the jeep. So out of the 2 which would be better for alot of highway use and weekend wheeling. Im leaning on the BFG's but id like to hear from some uratrac owners. Is the mpg notiecably worse on the mud tires?

Duratracs all the way, they have amazing grip and will get you through anything

I don't know why, but 15x8's are better for a 33x12.5 tire. someone back me up with the physics please.
funny.. I'll actually be running the RE 4.5, cragars, and BFG's. same everything.

as for the BFG's, 4 of them have a bad groove on one side, 2 others have some odd cupping. this is because of bad mount and balance but that's the condition of them.
the side wall looks very weak. I dont think I'll be able to air down very much
but I got the whole set of 6 for $200 so I'm kosher haha

if I was buying brand new, KM2's. but I'd choose the duras > BFG for sidewall

Because you worry less about popping a bead on a narrower rim from what I understand.

When my 32's are done, Im putting 35's on my stocker 15x7's...gonna be sweet. I just wish they made a duratrac in a 35" r15...

Duratrac all the way. I hate my bfg at's.

i have 15x8 4"bs with 33 12.5 and no rubbing. i have owned dura tracs and more recently bfg at's and i would suggest the bfg's. the duratracs have better more aggressive side wall and they grip really well but the compound is really soft and mine did not last long at all. bfg is a better at.. i would go either full mud tire like a km2 or get the bfg at

How is a 2 ply sidewall > a 3 ply sidewall.

every goodyear tire i've had has worn out too quick, but i'm still interested in the duratracs. goodyear recommends at least an 8.5" wide rim for the 33x12.5x15 tire.

the firestone destination mt tires are reviewed really well and are pretty affordable, check those out. tire recommendations are really biased though..

goodyear recommends at least an 8.5" wide rim for the 33x12.5x15 tire.
your fine on a 15x8 i have had 3 different tires of bfg, goodyear, swampers that size on 15x8

I just purchased the km-2's. I wheel with guys that run both. My decision to go with the BFG's was, upon watching both tires perform (I was debating between the two) I noticed that the km-2 tends to hook up a little better on the rocks. I love the look of both and many of the reviews touted the duratracs sidewall, but when it came to my decision, the important factor was traction on the rocks and although the difference is minimal, I was more sold on what I saw in the BFG.
Notice I stated "rocks" a couple times? I'm not saying their better for every condition, just the ones myself and my Jeep often find ourselves in.
Also, food for thought, ask an opinion on tires, and everyone will tell you what they run is the best.
Read reviews (alot) and pay attention to the opinions of guys that run the same type of terrain you run as well as the tires you see out on the trails you run. Ask questions on the trail (aint a guy out there that does'nt want to talk about his tires), thats whats always worked for me.

really? the BFG's have a stronger sidewall? I was just going off how the duras looked. looks like they would handle being aired down better.

Duratracs kill bfg at's in most situations but the bfg's do have a better sidewall. And if you live in the desert and do mostly rocks the bfg's would probably suit you better. And where did km2's come into this? Totally different tire

EDIT: Before someone with a hard on for bfg's flames me, I run both bfg at's and duratracs. Basically the same size. 31x10.50 bfg's and 245/75r16 duratracs. I know what I'm talking about from EXPERIENCE...I'm not some kid who spends too much time on YouTube lol

Yes. Back on topic Tire selection all comes down to what the driver wants to do and where they live. Where I live most people run bfgs , ats or km2, the larger jeeps 36+ usually iroks. Reason for these tires is because of rocky trails. There are more people starting to run the general red letters. Those are impressive also
