Default dual exhaust...?

gotta be a simple reason. with double header ex manifolds on some 4.0 i wonder why no one makes a full dual system.
im not big on mods but id love to hear duals on a 6 cyl.
yrs ago i made my own on a 2800 v6 pinto, ran the pipes side by side.
my son said it looked like a corvette underneath!! not quite.

Space. Up front there's not a lot of room for an extra pipe that wouldn't bang into the drive shaft. Gas tank and lines are in the way along the driver's side and in the rear. Some people have done it anyway with shielding to keep the fuel from boiling. You get more room to work if you're lifted and don't mind stuff hanging lower, but then that's more stuff to knock off on the trail.

Although it has been done, there's really no point as far as performance goes. If you just want to do it for looks, put a dummy exhaust tip on the other side and call it a day.

BTW, this has been discussed at length on the board. Here's a link to all those discussions:

I would be a lot of work and most duals on a inline motor sound like crap to me.

I think he should do it and have a comprehensive write-up outlining the whole project.

dual exhaust = dual trouble!

Yeah i agree with cruiser, go ahead and do it taking pics along the way.
When its all done post a sound clip of it.

Here's a cheaper easier way to cheat.

The single sounds better imo.

Nujeepguy, you should do side pipes. Make sure to document everything. Then when you're all done posting your build, go back and edit every post to include just one single cryptic word. Lol

Well, each of these is a 1.0 liter 3-cylinder, so their race would be like a true-dual mini-XJ.

I didn't hear that much of a difference in the dual/single exhaust system. But the single seems like the right thing to do on an inline motor.
