Chrome Grilles: What do you think of them?
I trying to decide if I'm going to get a chrome grille/bezel for my 98 black (stock) cherokee. I have seen plenty of chrome grills that I don't really like on them, but when I see one with stock yellow turn signals (not whited out) I like the vintage 80s xj vibe it achieves, as opposed to being too "bling". Looks especially good with some fogs. I know there's folks on both sides of this. What do you guys think? I'm leaning towards yes. Here are examples a few I like:
The one on TOP, I don't really care for. The 3 below, I like.

I like chrome as well as anything else that is tastefully done. Not that it doesn't work for basically any other color, but I'm especially fond of chrome on white or red vehicles.

I've seen the chrome on different color Cherokees, but I've got to say on all those pictures it just looks kinda weird being the ONLY chrome on a black vehicle.
Maybe if the window trim and mirrors were chrome also, but like that no.

I knew it would be a bunch of chrome haters! haha. Think it makes the xj look old(er)? I'm trying to make my stock look a little less..stock, but not crazy. Maybe a bull bar with the fog lights I'm installing and a set of chrome Ion/Crager Steelies with duratracs. I am not a fan of "blacking out" an older vehicle with black wheels and what not as I think it makes it look tacky. I think the chrome makes it look borderline classic tough. But I'm wondering what others think. Thanks for the responses and keep em comin.
Keep in mind the first picture is what I do not like.

Not too sure if it would look stupid, but what if you left the light bezels black and just did the chrome grille with blacked out centers?

I think I like it with the bezels chrome too. You mean like this right? Looks more low key, less 80s. I like both.

Wanna give it an older 80's look? Leave it black. Chrome or no chrome, doesn't matter. Make the interior red...the WHOLE interior....red. There's your 80's look.

I have 2 XJs, one has all chrome on the front and one doesn't. The ONLY reason the one is chrome is because I rear-ended someone once and had to replace all the front end stuff and since the junkyard charged the same price for chrome as for black I got the chrome just to be fancy. I prefer the black myself but since both XJs are mid-90's and both green having the different grills makes it easier to walk towards the right one when I'm not paying attention.

My girlfriend has an XJ with a factory chrome grille. Personally, I can take it or leave it. It looks okay with certain colors, not others.
I personally hate it when people put the center chrome insert in and then use other colors for the headlight bucket surrounds. It's kind of cheesy looking. Makes me think, "bro, just complete the look if you're gonna do that."
Overall, chrome don't get you home. XJs aren't particularly fancy cars, so any color can look okay on them. My Jeep had a factory paint-matched grille and I was happier with that than I was with a pure black grille.
I guess it comes down to opinion though.

One of the things I like about my black '00 is that there is no chrome on it. The emblems, which I do like, are a brushed metal (plastic?) and offset the Jeep nicely. One thing I am happy I did do was buy the white lenses for the front and ditch the amber ones. Again with a black Jeep think is offsets nicely.

Chrome grills belong on rappers, bro trucks, and hot rods.
Just my opinion.
