Disc breaks on rear of xj
Alright, went to pull a part yard today and took rear discs on 2005 kj (liberty). Took the calipers, backing plates, rotors, 10 lugs, 8 bolts that hold the backing plates, soft breaklines and both e-break cables. Ordered new rotors, calipers, shoes and e break shoes,e break install kit and new soft break lines. Was wondering if any of you out there in jeep land have some advice or some tips and tricks before I start this job ! Thanks in advance.... installing on a 1998 cherokee sport , 8.25 rear.

There are a few write-ups here on CF.

Best advice I can give you is when you're done, don't kick yourself too hard for not doing it sooner, lol
|
question: did you pull all of those parts to use as cores? |
Yes, pulled all parts as core. Only thing I'm actually using is the backing plate
|
Lug studs
The liberty ones do not fit and the Cherokee ones to short ! I ideas on what studs to use ?
|
Take a sample to the parts store.

if i recall correctly - i used zj wheel studs on mine. |

Sorry, I couldn't help myself...
Brakes: I've seen drum and disc brakes, drums and discs break, but never drum or disc breaks. |
Do you have to change the proportioning valve when you switch to rear discs? I am doing the same swap.
|
No. Just swap out the prop valve guys from the donor vehicle to yours.
