D rings on a stock zj bumper

Im looking to put a set of D rings on the front of my zj but I want to keep my stock bumper. Any suggestions on how to go about it would be much appreciated.

You could try fabricating it.......

I was thinking 1/4" steel plate, bending it in half and bolting it to the metal bumper with the steel going through the plastic bumper and drilling a whole through the steel and putting the D ring through it.

too thin, there is a reason most d ring mounts on bumper are 3/4 or 1"

The ONLY way to add D-ring tabs to your Jeep would be to do something sorta like Detours did with the XJ Winch mount.

You'd basically have to build a new "Frame" under the stock bumper and have the mounts stick thru. I have never messed with a ZJ but I'm sure it's doable... Just not by bolting to anything stock.

Unfortunately they haven't made anything for a ZJ yet.

Well, that was actually the first thing I thought of but I didn't know if the same thing would work on a ZJ. That's basically what I was trying describe except connecting the two brackets with a piece between them (In case the stock brackets were in the way.

what i did for a buddy was remove the stock bumper cover, open up the end of the frame horns, use 2x4x.250 tube about 18" long or so, struggle to get that in the end of the frame making a frame extension so to speak.

then drill a couple of holes through the frame and through the tube, bolt it in.

then weld a cross piece to join both frame extensions, leaving a couple of inches sticking out yet, then drill a 1/2 inch hole through the ends and you can stick a strap in the end and use a trailer pin through the strap loop.

we also cut the bump out on the bumper to access it when the bumper cover is on.
but he then grabbed another one without holes to cover it all up and just removed it when we went wheeling.

either way would work great with some good tugs.
you could also weld d-ring tabs to the cross piece and stick them through the bumper cover as well.

looked factory when cover was on, also had the strong crossmember piece across the front for accidental impacts.

its the thought that counts, a visual always help me think, even if its not on an xj, and vice versa...
