Default confused mpgs

Filled up the tank. Drove 60 miles from Hampton nh to concord ma. (mileage verified by GPS map not jeep) Doing 65 on cruise control. Topped off in concord and only used 2.4 gal of gas.

That's just over 25 mpgs. What the hell is going on ? This is the second time I've noticed extreamly good gas milage on a full tank. As soon as I have a half tank my mpgs drop down

I know the first quarter of the tank after filling it up always does well since you can fill the tank past the float so you burn the funnel of gas before it gets to the actual tank

The less gas you have in the tank, the more space is taken up by air, which allows fuel to evaporate. That's why I think I go through gas faster after a 1/2 tank

Cruise control, steady speed, in OD - that's pretty much ideal conditions. I reckon you've just hit a sweet spot, that's all.

edit: Try it at 70 and see what the difference is!
