Alright, I'm completely at a dead-end on this and input from the CF family is much appreciated. I love both ideas, but for the life of me I cannot decide which route I want to go.
Chop the rear and add a bikini top AEV Africana Style?

OR.......

Do an interior cage and cut the top and add a retractable weatherproof roof?

Yeah, um, that's not one of the options
One of these two things is gonna happen, just can't decide which.

Yeah, that's what I'm leaning towards just 'cuz of rarity, but I love the chopped rear look. I'm back and forth on 'em and just can't figure which I'd rather do. Full length retractable top is more expensive, but I keep the XJ shape and the down time would be less as a cage isn't too hard to build and the cutting would be nothing but a couple passes with an angle grinder. The chopped rear looks sweet but will require more down time to do all the cutting, welding, fabbing, etc.

I really like the rag top with the cage, especially for a dd. If you finished off the back area like a pickup with a bulkhead that could come in real handy. If you go with chopping the back off I think a pair of down bars at an angle from a hoop just inside of the roof line would look killer. Either way it sounds sweet!

Like I said earlier, the rarity of the retractable top is a big factor.
