Cherokee Wheels on Grand Cherokee?
Can I put wheels from a '95 Cherokee Sport on a '97 Grand Cherokee Laredo?
My Cherokee was totaled in an accident and is sitting in my driveway. I just bought a 97 Grand to replace it. But I like the tires on my XJ better (they're bigger -- P235/75R15 vs. P215/75R15 -- and they're in better shape). I also like the older wheels -- I think they are steel -- better than the alloys on the Grand. I did notice that the recommended tire size for the Grand is narrower (215) than for the XJ (225). But is there any reason I can't just swap the wheels & tires off the XJ onto the Grand? And is there an advantage to alloys, other than appearance?
Thanks

they're the same bolt pattern (5x4.5) and that's not much of an increase in size so they should fit. The steel should be stronger for off-roading as well, but it all depends on the alloy used. I went from 215's to 235's when I first bought my XJ and there was no issue so it should work.

As stated they'll fit. I have 245x70x16's on my '97 Grand. That's equal to a 29x9.50, and they don't rub but I have the Up-Country suspension package. That adds about an 1" of height over normal Grand suspensions.

Stud
Thanks guys... A quick follow-up: On the Grand, one wheel is missing a stud (1 of 5 studs). Should I care enough to have a new one put in?

Stud
Thanks Dan. I went over to that thread as you suggested, and I fear that it may be beyond my meager skillset -- I don't own an impact, and hitting things on my car with a hammer strikes me as something I could pretty easily foul up. Will it hurt anything if I just leave it alone? I guess I'm asking if 4 studs is plenty, or if the missing stud creates an imbalance or something that must be corrected...

You can insert the stud into the axle flange from behind, and use stacked washers and a lug nut to fully seat the stud in the flange with a ratchet, wrench, or even a lug wrench. I've done it using hand tools myself.
But using only four studs won't be a problem. IMO
