Cherokee sport is an xj?

I've tried researching vehicle info with vin# and trim code. It's an 96 cherokee sport 4 door with ho 4.0l. Trim code in door reads j5y6. This is an xj model still? Do not have title yet, but when ordering parts on ebay want to get correct parts. I am new to jeep scene and know there r alot of different makes with the cherokees.
Thank you

i appreciate it. I found a free vin check website and it vame bavk ad an sport/classic. Installed new hood release i'd ordered today, and i'd ordered for an classic. I'm honestly afraid to shut hood and test the pull lever. I'm thinking cause it's new it's gonna b lil resistance when pull handle. I installed as was factory cable. New oil pressure switch is waiting for installation next

When it comes to parts 99% of them are the same for all trim levels just the year and drivetrain it has does matter.

One thing to be aware of the 96 model year had a lot of parts that don't interchange with other years, it was the last year before a major change in the 97-99's then the 00-01's were different also.

GC can also be WJ, as well as others. Why I postedthe link earlier, gives all the 2 letter designations by year, and if you click, it takes you to the page for that link. If you're new, it's a great resource.

Yes, but when you click the links, it goes into all that and more. A great way to learn about them.
