CB SWR issues
Alright, just put a CB in my Jeep and I'm having issues with it. My setup is a Midland CB that I have wired the power wire to my fuse panel, and ground wire to a bolt behind the dash. The antenna is a 4' firestik II with their firewire coax cable. I mounted the antenna to a tail light bracket that I made, and made sure the bracket is grounded well.
Now the issues, I'm getting crazy high SWR's on every channel with this radio. 2.5-3 or more. I have a second handheld CB that I hooked up to the same antenna/jeep mount and am getting SWR's right at 1.0 on 1, 40 and 20. Because of this, I'm ruling out the antenna and coax being the issue. Could I have gotten a bad radio? I haven't keyed the mic up since I opened the package new (except to test SWR) so I can't imagine I fried the radio somehow. Could my radio ground/power be to blame? My second radio gets its power/ground feed from the cig lighter. Should I just hardwire to the lighter and see if that works better? Any ideas? |
Apparently nobody on here tunes a radio? I got it down to 1.1.
