whats the advantages to having weather channels. i found a cb unit for $65 that has local weather, but i dont really think thats all that important. im just curious

Well, if you are out in the middle of nowhere, a place your cell doesn't work, your CB may be able to pick up NOAA weather channels for the local area. Could come in handy say in the sierras or Rockies, when it can be a beautiful summer day, and turn into a hailstorm/ snowfest in July.

couple more questions,

1-has anyone ran a cb antenna as there am/fm radio antenna. i would assume you would have to get an adapter to connect the two. reason for asking is if it can be done, is to have symmetrical antennas on each front fender, one for cb and one for radio?

2-couldnt i mount a antenna to my roof rack? in this case i can run a 2ft antenna with a spring on the roof rack cross bar. i understand you need a good ground for the antenna, so you would use a ground strap from the base of the antenna to a good ground?

You can run a cb antenna for your fm radio, you have to put a different connector on the cable so it can pop into the radio

One of the guys in our club has a liberty and the snorkel deletes the stock antenna, so he just used another firestik for his fm antenn.

I can't answer 1 for ya, I have no idea. But, yes you can run your antenna on top of rack. Center it if possible, and make sure you have a strong ground. You will be golden.

I have CB antenna that is made to replace the radio antenna. It is tunable and has pigtails for both the CB and the radio. I had it in a previous vehicle and removed it. I haven't decided whether I will install it in the XJ yet.

Alan is a very well respected Ham. This man speaks the truth. Also you can coil your coax, but you have to use a ferrite core to secure the coil, and remove any common mode currents.
