CB Antenna Location Opinions
Well I'm trying to get my CB installed quick'n'dirty. I can always relocate later if I don't like it. Anyways, I picked up a mounting bracket just to try to make it work, best spot I found to mount it is to bolt it to the front bumper, passenger side, just inside the little bumper pad.
For you wheelers, any feedback on mounting it here (for now)? I don't plan on doing any deep mudding that might catch the cable on anything, just light trails and whatnot. I know the biggest risk with this location is catching it on something, but at least I can see it when I'm getting it close to things. I also thought this would help keep it clear of sheetmetal.
Its a 4' Firestick with adjustable tip, BTW. I'm going to go replace my pinion seal and put new exhaust clamps on, I'll check back for your expert (and undoubtedly unbiased) opinions when I'm done with that.
Thanks!!!

I make these antenna mounts and I sell them. Let me know if you're interested!
They bolt to the tail light and fit old/new Cherokee styles. Also, the tall design lets the Coax cable tuck under the mount.

I just got a shorty Mag mount cobra. it's only about 20'' long, mounted on the top of my jeep. Looks like a car phone antenna. It works well for me, and i'm not overly concerned with the range on it as i'm going to use it basically on the trails with other wheeler's in my group. I can pick up signals though from about 40KM away...which is decent for what i need. I was very impressed.
It also gives my the option to take it off if needed, and there are no holes anywhere in the body. You can see it in the picture below...

So...I went ahead and mounted it on the front bumper since everyone was too busy showing me theirs to answer my question whether there were any problems mounting it on front...

IF you read my post you would see the response to your question. and that is you need greater that 60% of your antenna abouve the tallest point of the body to recive clearly and as best as possable. if there is any metal in the way it will lessen the angle of reception. moun tas high up as possable to recive signal from 360degree for better clearity

So, I see 99% of people mount it so it sticks out the side of their vehicle. I'd catch it on so many branches/bushes if it were like that. Can I mount it on the hatch? (out of harms way)

I've had one on bith sides of my rig and have driven through trees and tall brush and it doesn't hurt anything. If you make the mount right there's no reason to baby it.

I run mine on the rear hatch, 4 ft Wilson on a spring, the T Ball dampens hatch strikes. Reception is excellent up to 4 miles, plenty distance for group runs, can catch skips from farther out. Used 1/2 an aluminum mirro mount and re-einforced inside the hatch with large fender washers, used stainless bolts and washers. Ran a ground wire from the in door wiring to one of those thru bolts. Been good for over 3 years.
Good to see goldie and the Roblaza flexin!
