cat converter scrap prices
i was just wondering what you guys have gotten for your cats after scraping them?
I went to scrap the cat out of my 95' parts jeep from cali with 113k on the odometer today. the guy at the scrap yard said it was only worth $6 because it was an aftermarket cat. i just told him i'd rather keep it for $6.
is this common? how can i tell if it is the factory cat or aftermarket? i assume it was factory because it was old and rusty, but there were welds on either end, i think it might be all one unit from the factory.

OEM cats are what bring the cash.
I got $45 for my cat after a rock "persuaded" it off my Jeep when offroading.
You can tell an aftermarket cat from an OEM cat, cause of the size and weight.
OEMs have 2 cores, instead of 1 like aftermarket.
Thus making them heavier right off the bat

Theyre generally more dense...which also increases their weight over aftermarket.

alright thanks everybody, it sounds like the scrap yard wasn't giving me the old run around. this cat really doesn't have much weight to it at all and i'm not sure how to tell but my money says that it is a one core. maybe i should have just taken the $6 then huh? lol

i was really hoping for like $40 or $50 bucks at least.. but if it is true that the cat was aftermarket, i've seen some aftermarket ones go for $50 on sale so i guess there not going to give me top dollar for it.
