built my own LCA's today...
 
hey guys i made some lower control arms today i had some 2x4s laying around and i needed some longer arms for my 4.5 coils. i drilled the holes about 1/4 oversize i think they will flex pretty good what do you think?

You should coat them in lineX or Por15 to keep them from rusting.....Err.. rotting. LOL. :D

nah heres what i did to the stock arms instead
but i did need that 2x4 to get it out of the shop temporarily. we tried driving it with just the 3 other control arms and the axle wanted to fold back into the body lol.

built my own LCA's today...
 
Here's a tip for bracing the stock arms. We used to run a class with Mustangs and Camaros that required stock style arms. We would cut a length of plate and weld them to the arms to fully box them. You can do the same to stock Xj arms as well. I'd suggest it for yours as well.

Oh, didn't see the images when I logged in last. Yes, boxing that entire assembly is a very good idea.

That was my original plan but when you see how much twist is in those stock arms when you flex I decided against it. Hopefully it will retain some of the flexibility past the joint. That combined with the fact the bushings are old and loose it will be fine. It's for an offroad-only rig.
