brake master cylinder
 

Hey guys. So I sold my car & I think I found a jeep I want. It's a 96 cherokee xj. Needs a brake master cylinder. The brake lines are new stainless steel braided. Is it difficult to change the master cylinder. I can probably get the jeep for 1800. But I'd have to change the master cylinder to be able to drive it home. Is it difficult & about how long would it take. He says he wouldn't mind if I changed it in his driveway, is that something that is feasible

The master cylinder is two bolts and brake lines. Not too hard to change but make sure you bleed your brakes starting with the furthest one first before you go drive it home

What would I need to do to the brake lines besides bleeding them.

If I remember correctly, the brake lines are a 13mm. Been a while but I'm pretty sure. Before you buy a master cylinder, make sure it needs one. Once I pulled one off and cleaned it. Worked good as new.

Alright I'll check it. Aren't bleeding the brakes a pain in the *** or am I mistaken lol

Nice. Low miles too. Just a heads up, that rough country suspension may ride a little rough. Some guys bash rough country and some say it's fine but rough country has been known to have stiff suspension. Good luck. I'm sure more guys will chime in too. Master cylinder should take about an hour if everything goes right. My brake lines were rusted to my proportioning valve so my wrench rounded the fittings.

I don't mind the rough ride. I've owned 2 xjs & 2 wranglers so I'm used to it lol. Thanks a lot for the help. Just trying to avoid renting a truck & trailer to haul it home

One thing to look at is with that lift, make sure he replaced the brake lines with braided extended ones to the wheel cylinders. Make sure he didn't just stretch the hell out of his stock ones and that's what's causing the bad brakes
