Bent rear rails

Looking at an XJ and it has a rear receiver that the rear “frame” rails are slightly bent where the receiver bolts on almost like someone dropped a heavy trailer on it or it took a rear hit. The leafs aren’t touching but it is bent down. The guy has been driving it for 6 years, it’s a ”two handler” in decent shape. Thoughts on any safety issues driving it “as is”?

That section of the frame rail is already a little bit of a weak spot. Especially around the fuel tube pass through (driver side). Consider that the only thing locating your rear axle (attaching it to the vehicle) is the leaf spring brackets forward and rear of the bent area, I think that would be a bit much for me (in terms of safety). I don't think it would simply fall apart on you or fail catastrophically though, because that area tends to be redundantly reinforced. But one good hit (speed bump, etc), and you might find yourself walking, or worse. If heavy rust is a factor as well, then I certainly would not.

A picture or two would probably help.

I should have taken some pics... had my phone with me... one of the cleanest subframes I’ve ever seen and it is about an inch behind the shackles...

with frame damage it is usually a lot worse than your eye can perceive . It would be wise if you’re considering it to take it to a frame shop and see just how really bad it is . Also remember that since the frame is bent that vehicle should most definitely be considered salvage it would instantly get a salvage title if turned into insurance with frame damage like that .
