Bedlining
 

so earlier this summer i did the back of my jeep with duplicolor bed armour and must say i wasnt to thrilled wit the way it came out. It came out very lumpy and doesnt look to appealing to the eye. And that was after almost a whole day of prep and brought it down to bare metal. It does function well though to give it some credit. no my carpet is crud so im looking to bedline that next.

what i want to know is Does hurculiner come out better and smoother than duplicolor? Im looking for like a line x finish without the line x cost haha

The offbrand liners all suck. Get some Monstaliner, it's better than Line-x or Rhino and it comes in a bunch of different colors. The guy who runs the company even gives discounts for JF members over on Jeepforum. His customer service is amazing. He even gives out his cell number to help people through ordering, problems, ect.

From what I've read the herculiner is rather rough. The smoothest textures are from spray on.

I used Duplicolor Bed armor on a stock bumper, bumper caps. And soon to be other stuff. I even bed lined a butt bucket, a bic and a PS3 controller, lol.

Anyways, if it came out lumpy you probably had a clog in it. My first can lasted 1 coat and the clogged. I learned they have to be nice and warm even more so than just paint when you paint with them. Also very very well shaken. I also had to soak a spray head thing in thinner to unclog it. Its just temperamental stuff.

There's your problem. You need to use a textured spray gun, not the spray paint cans. All the spray can ones absolutely suck. Use a spray gun or roll it, don't use the cans.

Herc in general does as well. I've bedlined a lot of crap and gave it a go on my pickup. Never had an issue with other brands, but I'll never use Herc again. It looked great for about a month then started fading horribly. It's been less than 6 months and it's all torn up, peeling, stained, faded, and generally just looks like hell and I don't haul much around in the bed.

For the minimal cost of cans of bed armor I'll stick with its little hassles. I'd only buy a gun for it if I had to do it a lot often or wanted to shoot a whole xj... I'd do roll on a bed though. Seems to take abuse better from others stories I've read.

As far as fading. Seems to be fine for me thus far... been 5 months no fade on bumper 2 months on caps no fade. I seem to remember reading the newer formulas are better against fading.

What is bed liner is this?

U-Pol Raptor sprayed at 35-40 PSI. The prep for the first time you spray is key, when I re-sprayed after adding my rockers the prep work was non-existent and there was very little fade after ~2 years, as seen in the full truck pic above. Which has since blended right in.

I hadn't heard of Monster liner when I made my purchase and it came with everything to do 110 sqft. But when I need additional supplies it will be Monsta :thumbup:

I was just curious how it's doing over sound dampening material. I get this question every so often about ML and I don't know of anyone who's done it over anything but Lizardskin

Skip the Dupli Color Bed Armor stuff and go with the cheaper blue can Dupli Color bedliner, texture is very consistent and subtle. It is also VERY forgiving to spray and pretty quick to dry too. I've got my whole Jeep covered in it with desert tan rattle can paint on top of it, aside from it taking me three days to regain feeling in my right hand from spraying that many rattle cans over a weekend I've got no complaints at all. I've also got the fender flares and rear bumper of my Dakota painted with it also.

It's adhering really well to the black damplifier, not so much the silver stuff. I blame myself by not using some self etching primer on the silver damp first, live and learn. :dunno:

The dampening mat is Second Skin, it made a huge difference in road noise. :thumbup:

I'm doing raptor lining this week on the entire undercarriage. I'll post up what I think of it.

I herculined my entire XJ. I sprayed it on with a textured paint sprayer. I wouldn't say I regret it... but it's not my favorite mod. It started fading to grey after only a few months and was a real pita to clean. It was one of the first things I did to it after I got it, the body had a lot of surface rust and the paint was horrible.
Here it is not long after I did it, but after it started to fade.

I ended up giving it a rattle can paint job over the herculiner, I like the way it turned out and it's much easier to clean now.

Monstaliner didn't last long. I guess driving down dirt roads kills it. Rhino liner. Bad$$$ but a pain to clean

Al from one kit, it didn't adhere excellent every where but thats were prep comes into play.
