So I have the oportunity to trade my dented up but rust free ultra low miles 98 dodge ram 1500 2wd 47,100K orig miles 318 V8 for the most solid 1986 Jeep comanche I have ever seen. The guy is willing to do a straight trade for the thing and it runs and drives great. It's a southern car the body is straight its the crappy 2.8L v6 Gm motor but it runs great and i had no problem going through all 5 speeds and Reverse(Slow as balls though). He even let me drive it down a dirt road and take it out on the highway and it performed well no issues. He has half a garage full of parts 1 steer colum with key, dana 44 axles, front bumbers, grills, complete new interior its got the rare xls option bucket seats with complete center console and its vin code factory black the exhaust on it is brand new set up like factory and he has the complete set for duel staight pipes that were chopped of and replaced in with the factory set up, spare radiator, ac/condenser, a/c pump, spare hood, kc lights and roll bar in the bed. Ill post some picks tell me what you think if its worth it or not my trucks starting to slip in 3rd gear(Damn 46Re junk trans)

everyone is going to say no because of the 2.8, but I am a fan of them myself. DO you know if it has the Puegoet (spelling?) trans or the AX5? I had a 85 XJ with the 2.8 and it had an AX5. the AX5 is the better of the two transmissions.

I would do it, especially since it drives good and your trans is on it's way out

Trade it. The engine tranny setup may not be the most desired. But everything else sounds worth it. Is it 4wd?

Do It!! Dodge Ram's are a dime a dozen. If it is in good condition you will be hard pressed to find a comanche in half the condition of you ram.

Good point. Shows how much I pay attention at 11pm. Anyway, being 4wd it's definitely a good trade. OP are you on ComancheClub? If you ask there, those guys will tell you to trade.

I would trade my xj for a decent MJ if I found one.

And I have about 8k in my jeep lol

Guitar Dude 33 05-15-2013 08:28 AM

I'd say go for it. It's almost impossible to find Commanche's in that good of condition!

Do it and don't look back. No, the 2.8L isn't a screaming demon, but it works well. I've seen more 4.0L with problems on the trail than my 2.8L... :shifty:

Because most 2.8s won't make it to the trail.

That Comanche doesn't look very nice. I would keep the ram because of the low miles

:bs: Bum rap from the early blocks and the crappy 2se carb were the biggest downfalls. 84-85 suffered from crank issues, but '86 is large journal. I've listened to a lot guys smack talk my 2.8L, but after a day on the trail with me, they usually shut up.

Well I decided not to do the trade but I have to say if the guy would have taken 4k for the thing id be all over it. I went up there today to make my decision and there was a kid that took it for a test drive off-roaded it and left lol it was coated in mud (Looked pretty darn good in mud at that) I'll stick to my 93 wrangler renegade my ram and my project cherokee sport i guess lol

Four grand? As in $4000.00? In-freakin-sane! It's an old MJ, not a golden egg.
