Badlands 12,000-Pound Winch

I've been trying to decide what winch i should get my buddy has a old warn with nothing but the winch and no cable but he's wants a arm and a leg for it but then i found this winch at harbor fright yesterday and seems to be a good deal anyone running this on there xj? and if so do you like it and is it reliable?

Try Smittybuilt's XRC series. Anything from HF makes me nervous, particularly something as critical as a winch.

I would hate to have it fail when needed most.

my buddy just got the 3000lb one a week ago for his honda forman and it seems reel nice it pulled my jeep out of a nasty hole so they seem strong but how much do the arc series run ya?

Gee oh Dee 01-31-2012 01:49 PM

Depends on where you buy them.

One pull doesn't typically convince me. But I'm a skeptic.

well we have been wheeling every night for the past week on the atvs and the jeep and he has used that winch probably 100 times lol we have been blazing new trails along the river and that little tav pulled out almost everyones atv and my jeep no problem but its has only been a week lol

Look into the tuff stuff 12.5k winch on truckandwinch.com, I have the non waterproof version. I pulled a broken hummer out of a mud hole with it easily sunday night

Read nothing but good reviews for them. Will be going the Badlands route myself

xjman941 01-31-2012 02:10 PM

all those winches look pretty similar to me, would you be surprised if they are all made by the same Asian manufacturer? I don't know this for sure, but it seems a likely scenario. If I am in fact wrong, please show me my error.

If that's the case, they're probably all decent winches.

my friend bought the 3k lb one for his ATV. it failed when he needed it the most, when he cracked through the ice on a lake and the quad started sinking. luckily it failed when the line was all the way out attached to my quad so i was an anchor until we got flagged somebody down.

so things are good deals at HF (like the winch plate), other things (especially electronic related) aren't.

i thought that same thing but think about it.. mostly everything these day is half plastic and junk after 1 or 2 years unlike back in the 50s and 60s stuff was made heavy and strong and thats what most of us guys have in our garages are like a drill press and bandsaw ext. that are like 40 years old and work like new

my dad always told me older the better when it comes to tools

Look up engo winches . They out preformed all other winches(including warn) in 4wheel drive magazines testing

Gee oh Dee 02-01-2012 08:51 AM
