Default Anything Special: 1999 Cherokee Sport Classic with Selec-trac??

Hi,

New to the group and jeeps.

I am looking at buying a 1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport Classic with "Selec-Trac."

Is this anything special compared to most 1999 Cherokees, or just run of the mill marketing?

He wants $6,000 with 114,000 miles on it.

Please advise soonest.

TNX!

Rick

6,000 seems pretty high. I got a 99 with the same amount of miles for $4,200 and I thought that was a bit high (although it was in very nice condition). Maybe some pics could help. But even if it was all original in good shape without rot I don't think anymore then 4500.

where are you located?

I am in southern CA where everything is more expensive!

However, I thought that this might be an interesting vehicle because of the "Selec-Trac" drive system. Plus it has a lot of "goodies" on it.

However, if the "selec-trac" is not a big deal, then the price is too high for me.

What is the story on the 'selec-trac" feature?

Rick.

It offers a full time 4x4 option. Google explains better:

Did Cherokees come with selec track? I thought that was only grand Cherokees. It would also explain the price.

There's nothing special about it in an XJ. It did usually come in a highly optioned vehicle such as a Limited. I'd guess it's probably to the tune of about 10% of the XJs out there have SelecTrac. It doesn't make them worth more money unless someone is looking for it. In fact, most people that off road seriously don't want it, because it's not as stout of a transfer case as the CommadTrac. To me, it's a better TC for a daily driver for people that live in areas that get occasional snow, but less and less XJs are used as daily drivers these days. More and more of them are being built for off road duty.

Yes as there were only two transfer cases available for the XJ.
