Just picked up a 99 (had a 90 Pioneer back in the day) and was driving around with my 16 yo son. He was driving and i was explaining some fatherly-technique of maintaining 55mph and he said "Did you notice the lines on the speedometer? It goes 50 then small line, then big line, then small line, then 60. So if the big line half-way between 50 and 60 is 55 then the line before it must be 52.5 and the one after 55 must be 57.5. Why did they do that?"

I told him I couldn't tell him as it was an adult secret. Or a "Jeep Thing".
