I have 2 of the original brand "Ultra Gauges" one in the XJ and the other in my WJ. Had it in the XJ first excellent tool and never taken out. Mine is mounted on the windshield in their mount, holds very well and multi displays at the same time if desired.

A good bluetooth scanner can be had for less than $25 on amazon now (I like BAFX) and the torque app for an android phone is $5. (there are iphone alternatives as well, but I haven't looked into them). I can't believe anyone with an OBDII capable vehicle that likes to keep an eye on their vehicle's behavior would not have this by now. Its priceless. Especially in my 96 xj with the simple analogue dash, the extra data is almost a must for knowing what's going on.

I love my Wifi dongle, but my only problem is that my app doesn't store the data so the mpg is per drive not per tank or what not. I use the free version of obd car Doctor though so that's probably the problem.

Why in the hell would anyone want to use their phone for that, seems stupid to tie up a smartphone with those duties. They are both TOOLS but I don't use my gun in place of a screwdriver either

It doesn't have to be a phone. It can be any android device with bluetooth. For example, I saw a 5" android tablet at the drug store the other night for $55. The sensor, the app, and the table combined would still be cheaper than these single-purpose items. With the added benefit that the android tablet could do a lot more than just run the torque app. (there are also a ton of plugins for torque - like those that allow you to overlay OBD2 data on a video being recorded). There are also apps for tracking fuel, repairs, etc.
In any case, I only use mine from time to time. But because I almost always have my phone on me. It is pretty convenient. I carry the scanner in my bag every day, so that I can scan my own car and also help friends at work with their occasional CEL codes/resets.

Yes and I have a handheld Garmin GPS with a map plug-in for all the National Forests and trails shown in the center1/3 of the US border to border even old fire trails and forest service roads. It shows every stream, valley, mountain, elev. it all has to do with the details.
I do carry an iPad with me also why I don't know anymore lol.

I have one that I bought in like 2006.
Neither the price nor the device has changed at all in nearly 10 years.
I love it but there's no way I'd buy one today when you can get an ultragauge for half the price.

I've got one and I think it's great. I slammed it in my door though and only the top works now but it's helpful when my gauges go out once in a while to know how fast I'm goin and to moniter water temp. Mpg is cool too.
