After nearly 5 months... It finally happened!
Finally! My Jeep moved under it's own power today!
Bought it in August. Three days later i noticed that what i thought was a cracked exhaust manifold "tick" got VERY loud! Turned out to be a broken piston skirt on #6.
So.... Being broke as i am, and buying parts as money allowed, my engine re-build is done! Like brand new!!!! Purrs like a kitten!
A big THANK YOU to this forum! And those who have posted here!
I've searched it from top to bottom and it is every bit as helpful a tool as
my repair manual. And provided the inspiration to get it done! Also special thanks to my buddy Mike

Yeah i'm glad it's back on the road! Any suggestions on the break-in period? I've been following the Haynes manuals steps pretty much. But i could always use advice. Funny y'all should be from Va. I'm moving up there in less than a month(Hillsville/Galax area). So my Jeeps gotta be ready for an 11 hour road trip soon!

i have a good friend in Hillsville. it's about 2 hours from me.
i usually go 150-300 miles change the oil and examine it. depending on the quality of your internals, all of the burrs and surface wear will be in your oil in about that long. don't keep too close of oil change intervals after that. about 3k is all you need.
other than that, for the first 1000 miles, let it warm up before you take off and keep it under 3 grand for about a couple of thousand miles. some people say to break it in for 10k miles but i've never done that and i haven't lost a motor yet. maybe i've gotten lucky, but i think about 2k miles is all you need.

Gave her a much deserved bath today. Mud is one thing, but 5 months worth of shade-tree crud is another. I also removed my side moulding and put on a sticker

Well i knew i'd be moving so i really wanted to know i had a solid reliable Jeep. Would have loved to go the JY route(costwise). But there is something satisfying about knowing i put this together and i know whats in it! I havent added up all my reciepts yet. But i'm pretty sure i have spent what a new longblock would have cost.... But, i didnt have that kind of cash all at once. Took the very long route.....
