Finally got my Chrysler Lebaron hood vents there in alright condition need to be primed and painted black off course. They are not metal more like a carbon fiber feel. If anyone knows really good primer let me know for all my painting projects I have always used self etching primer but on metal will try and keep thread alive with pics when I am done.

i have used a rattle can that is primer and paint in one. i dont remember what brand it is off the top of my head but i have painted my rims, half my jeep, and 90% of the plastic on the inside with no issues of fading or peeling in the last year and a half. i would use that.

Ok after looking at all different types of primer I decided to go with the standard car primer because I realized most care are plastic now that's why they don't rot at the wheel wells anymore. For paint Rustoleum made this paint I had never seen before for stoves heat resistant 1200F. Said nice shiny finish thought I would give it a try. Couldn't paint today first day of rain all summer in NJ. Nice and clean wipes worked perfect tack clothes.

How they turn out? I was thinking of doing them, but I'm leaning towards a cowl hood.

Sorry about the long wait lost my camera at work found it shoved under a shelf got my hood vents on and they work beautifully. My Jeep runs about 10° cooler now around 205°. Here is all the pics. I did not use a Jig Zaw to much shacking cause the paint to chip instead I used a diamond blade cutting saw. What you see holding the screws into place are right angle slabs I cut then held there by metal sink clips all from Homedepot/Lowes/Sam's Club doesn't matter. There is no more heat soak and I can see the heat coming out the hood when parked at a red light. Electric fan does kick in when it is really hot out but with winter coming not a problem. Rain is not a problem what so ever all it does is hit the block and fall down even when pouring and driving. None of the electrical wires ever get wet. Best investment for 2000 and 2001 XJ Owners.

What about 1997-1999 XJ owners? Any reason why the wouldn't work on a 1998?
