Default ac compressor warranty issues

well a few months ago I bought a remanufactured ac compressor from advanced auto and it recently went bad. they are saying since i didnt buy the condensor and orface with it the warranty is VOID due to the possibility of the new compressor getting contaminated. welll I never installed the hoses or electrical connections since I never use my AC. and they're saying that the refridgerant needs to flow through the compressor to lubricate it. anyone know if this is true?

So you replaced it not because it didint work but because the bearings in the pulley went I'm guessing.
The pulley itself is lubricated for life and doe's not need freon and oil.
But the warranty is the warranty. Not siding with them but it sounds like your buying another compressor or you can do a A/C delete if you don't want it.

Thats correct... you destroyed the replacement compressor. It needs freon to lubricate it.

What you should have done is bought an AC delete pulley.

Actually you are supposed to add oil as well as freon when you change out your compressor. If the warranty does not specify that the items need to be replaced or else the warranty is void then I would say that they owe you a new compressor.

Umm without the electrical connector to the clutch hooked up the compressor could never spin. Even if it was hooked up without refrigerant in the system the low pressure cut off switch would not allow the clutch to engage to prevent seizing the comp due to lack of lubrication.

ok guys thanks but for those who suggested the AC delete, no one actually makes one for my year xj anymore. unless you know of one, let me know because Id rather have that instead of the actual compressor.

Napa shows a listing for an ac bypass bracket/pulley.

http://www.napaonline.com/Search/Det...+50038+2038004

It says it fits a 93 but AFAIK the 98 should be the same part.
