Default '99 2WD Cherokee Limited for $1500? Good deal?

I test drove and had inspected a '99 Cherokee Limited today. Here is the breakdown:

-2WD
-Automatic
-Leather
-Power windows/mirrors/seats
-clear title
-no mechanical problems except A/C needs work
-comes with 4 studded snow tires
-120k miles

I can get it for $1500.

Is this a good deal? I'm in need of all of your professional opinions.

I think its a good deal . Just due to the lower miles, and it would be a great daily driver. My uncle sold his 95 2wd Xj for 1,000 with 228,000 miles. So if everything checks out, id buy it if you dont mind the 2wd.

double check for the infamous 0331 head. youll want it to be a 0631 casting. look between cyl 3 and 4. its stamped kind under the lip of the crankcase. you may need some degreaser and/or brake cleaner and a rag to see it. the issue with the 0331's was a faulty cylinder wall that is prone to cracking if it gets hot. other than that, heres off the top of my head..

check ALL electronics!!! the window switches, door locks, mirrors. check all functions from all doors, too. HVAC controls? blinkers all work? e flasher works?

chances are unless the current owner just replaced TRE's, ball joints, bushings and u joints that any number of these items re worn and in need of replacing. you can get a friend to turn the steering wheel back and forth a bit while you look inspect front end for worn components.

what about brakes? how do they do? check em from interstate speeds.

122k is nothing on a 4.0 they are as reliable as an anvil. but hows the oil look? if you have the means drain some out into a pan and inspect it for contamination.

other fluids are tranny, diffs and coolant. is the tranny fluid bright red and not burnt smelling? the diffs are probably fine.. but feel free to change the fluid once its yours! and the coolant should be bright green.

hows the heat work? it might be hard to tell now, but poor heat can be a symptom of a clogged heater core. if you flush the radiator, flush and back flush the heater core too.

what else... rust is a bugger, so check it well. how about under the carpets? check where you can for moisture.

thats all i got for now.. 1500 is a steal, man. good luck!

Sounds great, however, remember this. If the buyer and the seller are happy, it's the best deal in the world.
