Talking 95 Xj Sport 2dr SUV 4WD pricing question.(pics)

Hello long time lurker first time poster here.

I have found a 95 xj sport 2dr manual transmission with about 219k on it. She is rust free.(very hard to find a rust free one as I live in the upper midwest) Only 3 owners from what I could look up online.

She is priced on craigslist for 2800 which does seem a little high. The owner is selling because he bought a TJ and doesnt need two jeeps.

I was planning on offering 2,000(cash) and hope he takes it wont go above 2,500.

This will be my first Jeep purchase. I have always loved jeeps. I had a buddy who had an old YJ that I used to wrench on in high school. Was so much easier to work on then any Chevy or gmc ive owned.

I plan on using this for winters some light trails/camping and for a bit of side work I do as a welder/Manson.
Ive worked my *** off this summer to save for this thing and this is exactly what I was looking for.

forgot to add its been about 12-15 years since Ive driven a stick so Im hoping I wont burn the clutch too bad.

Also I wont post where I am at because I dont want anyone to steal my xj

Sounds good. If rust is an issue in your area, always go for zero rust, and bloody well keep it that way. The rest is peanuts.

I would certainly pay $2000-2500 for an actually rust-free XJ that runs. (I'm in Ontario)

She was a deep south jeep and the owner got transferred up here in the great north.

She is listed at 2800, which I think is a bit high. The KBB is about 2100 and that in mint condition. In my area similar jeeps are selling for around 2000. As I said I will be paying cash and will be offering him the $ after the test drive this Saturday.

I plan on keeping her up, I am in school for metal fabrication so as soon as I see any rust im cutting that stuff out and welding new metal in :welder:

Im a bit nervous as 2,000 is a bit of money for me right now and I have never bought a vehicle from a private seller. I do consider myself pretty handy so anything besides the transmission or rebuilding the engine I feel like I could do.

Oh this will be my DD especially for winter considering last year we had a foot of snow on the ground for almost 7 months.

Im surprised the 03 impala still has the muffle on considering how much I would bottom out

Lol. Well your plan sounds good. Seriously though, rust is about the only thing that can kill an XJ.

Oil spray goes a long way to preventing rot in hidden places. Like inside the frame rail.

Depending on lemon laws in your area private sellers can actually be better. Do your homework and remain diligent. Get the Carfax, etc. private sellers usually have maintenance histories or stories about the vehicle. Dealers just gamble on trade-ins and know nothing about what they're selling.

Looks like a nice Jeep for a Renix and $2500 would be a good price also if you can buy it for that.

I'd buy it for $2500. If he takes $2k then totally go for it! That's a pretty cool color too, and 2 doors are sought after. I really wish I would've never totaled my 94 green, 2 door sport. It was awesome. Now I have a 98, 4 door, green XJ sport, which I love as well. You'll find plenty of good info and help on this forum if you are looking to build that thing up.

After 10 months, 10 days, or even 10 minutes, the $500 difference will be of no matter at all. You will have what you want. Like so many others, I bought a 96 Sport (2 door as well) and am into it now for multiples of the $1800 I paid for it. Mainly the lift and paint job. And drivelines and rear diff, bearings, and brakes rebuild. And so it goes. BUT... I bought it rust free with a strong engine. Consider your purchase a 10 year deal. That XJ is that good! Believe me, in 5 years most of what will be out there on the market will be pure junk.

This is my third XJ. I bought a NEW 86 Laredo in 1986. A NEW 1990 Laredo in 1990. And this 1996 Sport in 2013 with 194K on it. (Yes, I am old enough that I voted against Richard Nixon for President in 1972)

It is a very different look than the 21 slot. Still growing on me. They are real easy to switch over, BTW. And I like the concept of a two door wagoneer. I don't think the factory made any. I looked into switching all the exterior trim, but there is no two door wagoneer bright trim for the side windows.

So I ended up paying 2650 for it. Guy would hardly budge on price. Lots of recipts for replaced items and 2 sets of wheels.

It does need some work (CCV system needs replaced waiting for the back hose also needs a tune up/ fluids flushed and small leak in a radiator hose ) but its pretty easy to work on so far.

Now to sell the impala to get more money to throw into the jeep.

Thanks guys for your help once I get it fixed up I will put some photos up.

Also the guy who I bought it from was super nice and offered to help put a lift on it this when summer comes around
