20w 50 oil? Will it run ok?

I would think it would be better to change those leaky gaskets than try to use your oil as RTV sealant.
thicker oil=more heat
Unless you have an air cooled engine or an engine meant to run such thick oil you should stick with what the factory recommend
Agreed.. the gaskets are near the top of my xj todo list.. but other things just keep getting in the way. Like after some of the interesting noises my jeep made this morining im pretty sure I need a new starter motor.
However, a new starters not much use if your engines shot..Ive read over that oil 101, and I think im gonna drop the 5w50 out this weekend, and spring for some 10w30. 50 gallons of free oil seemd too good to pass up, but it might end up costing me more in the long run.
