Found a 2000 xj in good shape an older guy owns seems to have been maintained its whole life I can see the front rockers are getting pretty bad but what concerns me most is that it's the coil style inline 6 an he said it has the original head on it an it's never cracked or leaked anything I think he said it has 205xxx think its worth looking into to daily drive /light trail

Is the carfax on it clean? How much maintenance has been done to it? And how much rust? I have a 2001 with the original head on it and it doesn't leak and has never cracked, maybe I'm lucky. I would say give it a shot if you can get it for a good price.

If the price is right then go for it. Don't let the cylinder head be a deal breaker, not all of them crack.

If the floor pan and rockers are rust free and not priced sky high i would buy it.

Thanks for the input guys is it harder to lift these newer ones I know there were shuttle differences in body but is the suspension the same? I plan on going threw it during the summer an would like to give it a 4in lift an some other goodies

1084-2001 are pretty much the same in the XJ when it comes to the suspension.

thatXJguy 03-21-2015 01:35 PM

They're not harder to lift.

I only counted 1 question.
You still have 1999 left.
Go!

The XJ is the easiest vehicle to lift there is.

Same year and color as mine. I lifted mine 4.5 inch. Only problem was my control arm bolts came lose. Wobbled the hole out and I got the death wobble. Other hen that it was a breeze

The 00-01 used a low pinion dana 30 in the front and it has a funky y pipe with 2 cats from the exhaust manifold back. The rest of the xjs had a normal down pipe and a high pinion dana 30.

This may sound like a really dumb question but what's the difference between high low pinion axles?

Bustedback 03-22-2015 03:03 PM

The high pinion offers better ground clearance because the pinion is higher. It's also about 30% stronger because of the reverse cut gears. The low pinion axle has the pinion gear lower on the pumpkin. Less ground clearance and weaker.

Mines a 2000. Only got one cat
