1999 or 2001 Cherokee XJ? Need help!

I have previously owned 5 wranglers but have recently decided to buy my first XJ. I'm looking at a 1999 and 2001 model both are 4 door sport. Here are the brief details:

1999: 3" lift, 31's with adjustable track bar, good tires, AC and heat work, PW, PL, power mirrors but don't work. Automatic with 164k miles, 4x4.

2001: 4.5" lift, 33's, like new tires, AC and heat work, PW, PL, no power mirrors. Automatic with 170k miles, 4x4.

Asking price for both is the around $6k. Assuming normal wear and tear on both vehicles which is the better option? This will be my DD but my commute is only 5 miles round trip. I put less than 5k miles on the vehicle yearly and very little high way or off reading.

Appreciate any and all feedback! Thanks!

1999 all day long. The best year for the the newer style XJ. 2000 and 2001 had a different cast for the head and is prone to cracking. There are some other things but I can't remember. Someone else will say. Also something to do with the Dana 30 being a week design in 2001. High pinion/low pinion or somthin.

The 01 has a low pinion dana 30 in the front and the funny 2 piece exhaust in the front. The 99 is a better year if its been taken care of.

1999 would be my choice by a long shot over any 00/01.

What do y'all think I should offer on the '99 model?

Not sure on the prices where you live but to me 3500 to 4k for that jeep.

Six grand is way too much for that XJ! No more than thirty five hundred bucks is what I would pay.

That is not a $6k Jeep. $3000 tops. That's just someone posting high because he knows people are going to low ball him for it.

And 1999 is the best year.

Maybe its one of those the wife/gf is making him sell it so he listed it sky high so it won't sell.

Sorry to hijack, but I've found a couple '01's with 114K for $6K and 76K for $9900. The higher mileage is not lifted and the higher price is with 32" Rubicon wheels and tires.

I'm probably buying house in next two years and need to sell my Rubicon that I just finished building. I need to downsize and would put money into the XJ to make it nice and capable. I hate selling the Rubicon, but I can't afford a house and a Rubicon.

I will try to talk down both, but the one with low mileage is in almost perfect shape. Lift is relatively new and the tires came off a '15. I would pay a higher price since it already has a 4.5" Zone lift and looks how I want it. This is what I need to sell. Attachment 273647

Buy the 99. Please sell that jk to buy it and offer the guy $4500 tops. Near me that's about what it would go for. Dont worry, he will have that listed for a long time for $6k. Then you could send me that light bar on The roof rack. Lol

so after reading all the posts on how 99's are all around superior to a 00-01, you want to buy an 01 for almost 10k.. Terrible. Just terrible.

Never said I would buy one for 10K. I will see what he is willing to come down to. A '99 may never come available and it may be a POS.
