0331 head cracked
Ive started to watch my coolant go down, and found a milky white spot on the bottom of my oil cap. I have a 2000,Ive found lots of info on the 0331 using the search, but where is the cheapest place to find a replacement online. And i know its going burn my bearings, but do you think i can get away with driving it say 10 miles a day until the mid january, its not overheating yet and my pressure is still good. Thanks

the 0331 head crack wont cause overheating unless ya run it low on coolant.
Google alabama cylinder head or go on ebay and search 0331 head and Clearwater cylinder head should come up..... both are about $450-475 shipped. Do not buy a reman locally unless it has TUPY cast into the head or you could be getting the same casting as you have now. TUPY were the redesigned newer 2002 up castings without the flaw. It should be ok for that length of time driving that short of distance....... wouldnt hurt to dump the oil every cpl of weeks..... cheap insurance |
Some machine shops can weld a cracked head, it happens lot on aluminum ones, but not much on the cast iron but its still possible.
I'd call every shop in town before I spent $370 for a head. Get it magna fluxed to find the crack. I had a Chevette one time that cracked a head, we water glassed it. Drive it another year or two before we junked it then. http://www.aa1car.com/library/ar497c.htm found a link about it. |
