I love this look, a guy's XJ in a local club is exactly like that. It offers zero protection for the front end. I've bounced off trees & rocks with mine several times without a thought. But I really don't care what happens to it.

You should care what happens to it! Gotta love the 2 doors
Welcome to the exo "club". built mine out of 1.75" Dom and Hrew tubing. Best advice i can give you for strong joints is making tight joints. Filling big gaps doesn't make for a strong cage. 3/16's wall tubing does sound like overkill but its better to be overkill than underkill.

Sorry I haven't posted in awhile, been a pretty slow process. Ordered new tubing from work. Decided I didn't like how my exo was turning out, so ripped it off for now. Just going to finish getting my rockers and bumpers done. I ordered this time 1.75" with .120 wall. I'm hoping it'll bend a little easier. Also this time, I will take much more time notching my tubing. I will keep posting as I finish things.
If you look in the builds section under project snowball theres quite a few pictures of my hybrid cage build. 1.75" .120 wall dom is my recommendation.
.188 is what I'd use for high impact areas or some structural parts. .120 is fine for everything else and then aesthetic stuff will be HREW. Weight is of no concern to me between 20-40' of .188 or .120 for the impacts it takes. I have .25 and .500 on a lot of my stuff. My buggy sub chassis and main rails will be .188 as well as the B pillars I think. Cage looks good so far. Tie it in to the roof and the interior pillars too. I'd also do the front and tie it in to the bumpers and inner fenders.

I like it! Or...I did like it? Eh, whichever! lol! But I am looking forward to seeing what you come up with! Have been thinking about going Exo with mine, but everyone keeps tying to talk me out of it! lol
One of the reasons I wanted to go with an exocage, is I am doing the rocker panel swap with 2x8 square tubing, and want to tie the cage to the rocker/sliders, which will be tied to the channel stiffening the chassis. I figure the more that things are tied together, the stronger the whole is...within reason! lol
