Winch Bumper
3 Attachment(s)
I got this bumper off of a buddy of mine and I was wondering if it was strong enough to mount a winch on it and be able to actually use the winch. I am taking 3/8 inch and making new mounts for it and ordering the JCR tie ins for the frame rails. But is there anything else I need to do? I don't want to get a winch, go to use it and rip the bumper off the jeep.

Yeah it needs some new mounts those in my opinion are not worthy of a winch or using the bumper for recovery
|
Sorry bud this isn't fab. Read the stickies at the top of this section.
I wouldn't use that bumper for recovery. Judging by that third pic, it wasn't made very well. It does look good, I just don't think it will be worth the effort you plan to put into it to use it as a recovery bumper. I can't see on my phone, does it mount with the stock bumper bracket? It looks like the stock bumper mount bracket to me. |
I got it off of a buddy of mine for free cause he was getting rid of his jeep. Its on the stock mounts right now. I am building new mounts for it out of 3/8 steel and getting the jcr frame rail tie ins.

If you're making the brackets, why don't you also make the tie-ins as well? They're not hard to make.
|
I could. I'm more concerned on getting this bumper strong enough to mount a winch on it

3/8"s!? Man, 1/4" is plenty.
Incorporate the steering box bolts and the other 3 bolts on the passenger side, mount your winch on it and run it till it falls off. Enjoy. |
How thick is the winch plate going to be? As long as it's tied in correctly and the winch plate is strong enough you should be fine

I plan on buying this winch plate from barnes4wdhttp://www.barnes4wd.com/Dual-Pull-W...ate_p_214.html
